This was an honest question one of our teens asked Dina at Youth Group this Sunday.
Dina did a great job with her answer, she answered honestly saying something like, “There have been times in my life when I knew something that happened was Jesus at work. There have been times in my life when it has been harder to believe and then I lean on the faith of others at church, that’s part of why church is so important. When I am away from church, it is harder to maintain my faith.”
Honest. Faithful. Committed. What a blessing to have a setting where our teens can ask such an important and such an honest question! AND how incredible for them to have a leader who is prepared to answer!
We have known for years that the faith is more caught than taught, and THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENS!
Why do you believe in Jesus?
I can’t help but think of the passage in 1 Peter 3:15-16 that reads, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”
Are you prepared to give an answer? I suspect you’re more prepared than you might think. Consider asking a Christian friend this week how they would answer “why do you believe in Jesus?” Practice your answer. You never know when you’ll be asked.
Praise the Lord that our youth are seeking truth and that they are surrounded by people and leaders who know and love the Lord!
Gratefully,
Pastor Karen
